Taiwan recorded a new case of COVID-19 on Thursday. This case brings the total number of cases Taiwan has recorded so far up to 524.

 

The patient is a Filipino sailor who arrived in Taiwan on September 15 for work. The man had tested negative within three days of departing for Taiwan, and once more upon arrival.

 

The man’s company sent him for an additional test on October 5, several days after his mandatory period in quarantine had ended. The test results showed a weak positive. A follow up test conducted the follow day came back positive on Thursday. The patient is asymptomatic, and is now in isolation in a hospital.

 

Health authorities have ordered 16 contacts into home quarantine. They are also investigating where the patient had been between leaving quarantine and receiving a positive diagnosis in order to trace any further contacts he may have had.
