Health Minister Chen Shih-chung has urged the international community to support Taiwan’s bid to join the World Health Organization (WHO).
Chen made his appeal in two articles published on Monday by leading newspapers in Spain and the Czech Republic.
In his article published by the Spanish-language La Razon, Chen talked about why the global health network should include Taiwan in the post-pandemic era. He called on the international community to work together to contain COVID-19 as the infectious disease has no boundaries. .
Chen said Taiwan has donated over 50 million surgical masks, 1.16 million N95 face masks, 600,000 protective gear, and 35,000 forehead thermometers to over 80 countries around the world.
Taiwan has also shared its experience in containing COVID-19 with government officials, scholars, and medical care workers from 32 countries virtually.
The health minister said Taiwan’s model can serve as an example for other countries.
