COVID-19 (06/22): Taiwan reports 52,213 local cases, 171 deaths


Taiwan reported 52,213 new local cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. One hundred seventy-one more people have died.

Taichung City reported the most new COVID-19 infections with 7,909 cases. Kaohsiung City had the second-most infections with 6,992, followed by New Taipei City with 6,444.

Out of Wednesday's newly confirmed COVID cases, 281 have moderate or severe symptoms. 

Another 171 people have died from COVID-19. Of the deceased, 117 were men and 54 were women. Their ages ranged from four years old to over 90 years old. All of the deaths announced on Wednesday were classified as severe cases. 158 had a history of chronic illness, while 73 were unvaccinated.


Taiwan also recorded 33 imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday.
