COVID-19 (06/23): Taiwan reports 48,283 local cases, 166 deaths


Taiwan reported 48,283 new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. One hundred sixty-six more people have died.

If you take into account the population of each area of Taiwan, Changhua County is a hotspot for the virus. More than 3,000 people have new cases of COVID there. Pingtung County is also dealing with a high number of infections, as is Chiayi City.

Another 166 people have died from COVID-19. Most were over the age of 80, and the majority were not triple-vaccinated.

Out of the 48,283 people confirmed with COVID on Thursday, 415 have moderate or severe symptoms.

Taiwan also recorded 73 imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.
